As you can see from the above, you dont want your dog to be spooked by noises etc, and you dont want them to have aggression towards you or anyone else …
BUT the biggest decision for you with a hunting dog is how much socialization they should be given/ allowed. I prefer a fully socialized hunting dog, but then again I don’t run packs of pig or big game dogs.
These human hunters often complain when their dogs are too socialized as they say it takes the edge off the dog. A pig dog that is meant to show no fear or hesitation when confronted with a deadly prey, have been said to ‘lose heart’ when treated ‘too nicely’ at home.
BUT this means if you have these kinds of dogs, they are single use only. You cant have them as a family pet or take them to the shops on the weekend. You have to be extra careful that they dont get out and attack neighbor dogs etc.
There is a big debate about how nice and social hunting dogs that kill big game should be, but that is a question for you and your local area authorities.
