Traditionally, Early American farmers used to hunt pigs with dogs to save their livestock and crops. Usually, Pig hunting dogs are grouped into three categories.

All the dogs need training on how to handle a pig; they all need to wear a cut-vest to secure their neck and vitals. It’s a very dangerous exercise for the dogs and the hunters should be trained in advance to provide first aid for dogs. The first aid should include needle and thread and trainers can sew dog wounds that arise during the tracking or holding.
Bay dogs are working dogs that are very strong and easily trainable. Although, these dogs are very loyal, because of their energy they do not make as good of a family pet. If the breeders know that dog will be used hunting and ranching, they don’t even think of selling the dog.
Catch dog build is perfect for taking down a pig. Mostly, catch dogs have a very strong bite and some of them have locking bite. Generally, these dogs bite, hold and wobble their prey as the natural tendency. They are trained as good hunting dogs, but they are an ultimate risk around the children.
The hunting dogs are not guarding or personal protection dogs. These are not pit fighting dogs. These dogs are supposed to run in packs to hunt the animals. In some parts of the world, dogs are used to big cats and bears.
